Meet the people

Giannis & Olivier, 2 hosts with atypical backgrounds....

First pharmacists, then restaurateurs, and now owners of a guest house, they will welcome you in their home, in a corner of paradise, in the calm of Giannis's native island.

"Maison Meltem is an opportunity for us to meet other travellers, around the bar, the swimming pool or the brazier lounge, to share and discuss our experiences.

Meet Cretan Island

Crete is Giannis' native island. He will be able to recommend the sites to discover during your stay at Maison Meltem.

Here is a List of the most beautiful sites in Crete within 90 minutes of Maison Meltem.

More into beach:

# Small Psaromoura beach 5 minutes away by car (our favourite).
early in the season...

# Family beach of Agia Pelagia 10 minutes away, a charming bay lined with restaurants.

# Ligaria Beach, same layout, 15 minutes away

# Chelidoni Beach, beach bar atmosphere between the rocks, also arrive early, 15 min towards Heraklion

More interested in culture and history:

# Heraklion Archaeological Museum ***, a priceless collection of artefacts from the Minoan and Cretan civilisations

# The ancient site of Knossos, the cradle of Minoan civilisation, near Heraklion***.

# Archaeological site of Phaistos, on the road to Matala, 1 hour's drive away, which we prefer, away from the hordes of tourists.
far from the hordes of tourists and much wilder.

# Arkadi and Preveli monasteries

If you prefer nature and discovery:

# Matala, a former hippy village on the south coast of the island, 1 hour's drive away, which can be combined with the site of Phaistos. Beach and restaurants often crowded in season, prefer the beach of Kommos 5 minutes by car, immense beach of wild blond sand, calm and naturist in places

# Preveli beach and palm grove, below the monastery of the same name, on the south coast opposite Rethymnon

# Small town of Rethymnon with a Venetian flavour

# Agios Nikolaos, Elounda & the fortress of Spinalonga
