Contact and getting to Maison Meltem
Giannis and Olivier reply personally, in English, French and Greek. To ask about availability, reserve dinner, flag a late arrival or enquire about the house, calling is fastest; email works better when a written record is useful.

Coming from Heraklion airport
Maison Meltem stands above the village of Agia Pelagia, on the north coast of Crete, 26 km from Heraklion Nikos Kazantzakis airport: a 24-minute drive along the E75/A90, the fast road that follows the coast. It is one of the few places on the island where you go from the plane to a view over the Aegean without giving up your day to it. Heraklion is the closest airport to the house.
Use the pin on our Google listing in your navigation app rather than typing the postal address: the latter names the municipality of Malevizi, not the gate. And let us know roughly when you expect to arrive — we will arrange a personal welcome or self check-in with you.
By car or taxi
This is the simplest way in: the E75/A90 westbound as you leave the airport, the Agia Pelagia exit, then the road climbing above the bay. It is a direct 24-minute, 26 km door-to-door drive. Whether you are driving or taking a taxi, use the pin from our Google listing rather than the postal address: it marks the gate, not the municipality.
Hiring a car through our partner
A car changes a great deal in Crete, and we can put you in touch with the local hire firm we usually work with. Their rate is all-inclusive, including insurance. Ask us for their contact details by phone or email, when you book or later, and we will pass them on.
By bus
It can be done, and you should allow about an hour in all. Line 12 runs from the airport to Heraklion’s central bus station (KTEL) in around 9 minutes; the coach for Agia Pelagia leaves from there, and you get off at the “A1 Super Market” stop. The house is then a 10-minute walk away. We do not publish timetables or fares: they change with the season, and they are better checked at the ticket desk on the day — or with us on the phone, and we will look into it with you.
To know whether a hire car will be useful for your whole stay or only for a few days, call us. Based on your dates and what you intend to see, we can give you advice tailored to your plans.
Check-in and check-out times
Rooms are ready from 3 pm and are vacated before 11 am. You can arrive at any time of day or night. Giannis or Olivier will welcome you, or you can self-check in. Let us know your arrival time so we can agree the details. If you need your room before 3 pm or would like to keep it after 11 am, please ask in advance: this depends on the day’s bookings.
The house is not wheelchair-accessible.
Breakfast is served every morning and included in the room rate. Giannis’s dinner is booked ahead, for Monday, Wednesday and Friday evenings: ask for it at the same time as your room, especially for a short stay.
